This is the Koln Dom (Cologne Cathedral) at dusk. I had this shot in mind before we even left home and on our first day there we walked across the Hohenzollern bridge which is heaving under the weight of thousands of padlocks put there by couples to declare their love. I’d intended this evening as just a recce but the conditions were perfect & the cathedral floodlights came alight on cue so I decided no time like the present. I’d not brought the tripod out but conveniently there was a sturdy wall to place the camera on. The resulting shot required very little post production.
Corbiere Lighthouse, Jersey
This is Corbiere Lighthouse in Jersey. Conditions were spot-on; bright sunlight but thick fog drifting across the frame. This is a combination of two shots, a long exposure to blur the sea and another shorter exposure where the lighthouse was not completely obscured by fog.
Mist over Loch Leven
From a trip to Glencoe in May, this view was from the main A road about ½ a mile from where we were staying! Driving along to another destination, I spotted the mist on the water and quickly pulled over. A walk down to the jetty of the local boat club provided the perfect viewpoint and a conversion to monochrome seemed to suit the conditions.
The Corpach Wreck
The Corpach Shipwreck, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, just outside of Fort William with Ben Nevis in the background. The wreck is actually the MV Dayspring and was built in 1975 to catch herring and mackerel. In 2000, it stopped its activity. Moored in the Fort William area, the boat was caught in a storm in December 2011 and the mooring holding the boat let go and it's been here ever since.
Fairy Glen, River Conwy
Taken on a trip to North Wales . This was taken on one of those damp overcast days well suited to waterfall photography! It was a bit of a scamble down to the rocks but despite my less than agile frame, it was worth it. I tried several shutter speeds but this one gave just about the right amount of movement whilst retaining some detail in the flowing water.
